Confirmation

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a sacrament in which the Holy Spirit is given to those already baptised in order to give the strength to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ.

Our programme of instruction helps young people to think about what the sacrament of Confirmation means to them and what special gifts the Holy Spirit can bring.

Our parish Confirmation programme is open to young people in year 10 and above. Registration for the programme is announced in the newsletter (normally in February).

Instruction takes place over one weekend in April and on an additional Sunday to plan the liturgy. The Confirmation Mass takes place in May with the sacrament being administered by a Bishop. The young people take an active part in the Mass through dance, drama, presenting the offertory gifts and reading the word of God.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

......pour out your Spirit
upon your people,
and grant us
a new vision of your glory,
a new experience of your power,
a new faithfulness to your word,
a new consecration to your service,
that your love may grow amoung us,
and your kingdom come;
through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
