Brenda O'Carroll and her friend Mary Watson first became involved with St. Joseph's Church flowers when asked to arrange the flowers for a wedding in about 1975, after that Brother Malachi who had always previously arranged the flowers for the whole of the church asked them to take over the flowers at Christmas and Easter.

When he left the Parish they were asked to organise a list of people who would arrange the flowers weekly.. After Brenda had given some classes eight people offered to help and some are still on the arranging list.

We now have 16 members who arrange flowers on the High Altar and a few ladies who arrange the side altars.

As we do not have flowers during Lent, the turn only comes around about twice a year.

At Easter, two arrangers are asked to design a scheme for the flowers, so everyone gets a chance to express their own ideas, but everyone helps with arranging.

In November we have a meeting to discuss some ideas for Christmas and a joint decision is taken on colour and theme and again everyone gets involved with the arranging.

Members have also helped over the years with other flower festivals at all the local churches and their members have helped us with ours.

After more than 30 years Brenda decided to step down as organiser and asked if I would take over which I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying. If anyone is interested in joining our happy, friendly little Group you will be made most welcome and help will be given to anyone interested.
