About Us
Stort Interfaith (formerly St. Joseph's Interfaith Group) developed from its origins in 2000
from a Parish mission as a committee to promote parish involvement and education in ecumenical
and interfaith co-operation. Although parish involvement is still a key feature of the group,
its membership has broadened to include people from other churches in the town and members of
other faiths. Stort Interfaith seems a more appropriate name now.
Our aim is to meet with people of other faiths with an open mind and to provide a forum where
we can acknowledge one another and learn to listen and share experiences so that we are
enriched. Events and meetings vary in nature:
- Over the years we have invited speakers from Jewish, Muslim, Baha'I and Hindu backgrounds
to address larger audiences.
- Annual Westminster Interfaith pilgrimage, held in June. Some 300 people gather of many
faiths to walk together for the day visiting many places of worship in a specific area of
London - hospitality sharing and getting to know one another are key features.
- Recent outings include visits to the Jewish Synagogue in Harlow, Bishops Stortford Mosque,
Bhakivedanta Manor (HQ of the Hare Krishna movement) and Audley End diversity festival.
- Smaller gatherings of an informal nature are also planned e.g. bring and share meals, study
days, quiz nights etc.. Our new programme will be available at the end of the summer.
Our new programme begins in September. For details please contact Rita Morson 01279-850209
