Reconciliation

Taken from At Your Word Lord Season lV - Reconciliation

Psalm 50:1

Have mercy on me, O God,
According to your steadfast love;
According to your abundant mercy'
blot out my transgressions.

Matthew 4:1

Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil

Contemplate:

Bad habits can sneak into our life, almost unnoticed. The enormous temptations rarely occur, and few temptations really offer to change our lives. For the most part, temptations start in subtle ways with the small things in life, the apparently unimportant. A little bit of unkindness here, to a little bit of dishonesty there, the bad ways begin to take root and as time goes on it becomes just a little easier to take the wrong road and make bigger mistakes. Before we know it, we have become used to false standards and even accept our bad behaviour as normal. This Gospel invites us to go with Jesus into the wilderness and to reflect on our lives and recognise where we are tempted and where we fail. We have a chance to put things right.

A Prayer:

Lord God, open my eyes afresh, to see where I take short cuts and allow temptation to influence my life, and when I give in and compromise what I know to be right.
