About Us

The SVP is an international organisation of lay people founded in Paris in 1833 by Frederick Ozanam, a young student who was deeply concerned at the poverty he saw around him. He placed his new Society under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, the "Father of the Poor". Today it is established in 132 countries.

St. Joseph's Conference consists of both men and women members who meet weekly. We visit the elderly, sick and housebound in their homes and in hospital, residential care or sheltered accommodation. We provide lifts to the supermarket, doctor's or hospital appointments and run other errands as required. We help to find furniture and appliances for families/individuals in need and try to help those in crisis in whatever way possible.

We run a coffee morning on the first Tuesday of every month in the Parish Centre, aimed specifically at those who have difficulty in getting out and about; lifts are provided. (Of course, anyone is welcome to come along).

We are "twinned" with Conferences in India and Sudan for whom we provide some financial support and with whom we exchange greetings and news where possible.

All our members are CRB checked and all our work is confidential. For more information, or if you would like to join us, please contact us via our mobile phone number.
